Larsen (2012) critically evaluated the genus Melphina and described two new genera for species which had been placed in Melphina . One of these was Melphinyet , established with M. flavina (Evans) as type species and four other species.
Evans (1937) treated tarace Mabille , flavina Evans , unistriga Holland and statirides Holland as four forms of tarace . Evans (1956) presents T.H.E. Jackson’s observation that tarace , flavina and unistriga should be regarded as species since the forms fly together, are easily separable and do not intergrade, but did not accept this view. Subsequently, Lindsey & Miller (1965) agreed with Jackson’s view and formally raised all four to valid species separated by differences of the male genitalia.
