Orthocentrus wahlbergi species-group

This species group was established by Veijalainen et al. (2014) for seven Neotropical Orthocentrus species: O. bicoloratus Veijalainen, 2014 and O. flavifrons Veijalainen, 2014 from Costa Rica, O. harlequinus Veijalainen, 2014 from Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, O. nicaraguensis Veijalainen, 2014 from Nicaragua, O. tenuiflagellum Veijalainen, 2014 from Peru, O. umbrocciput Veijalainen, 2014 from Guatemala and Honduras, O. wahlbergi Veijalainen, 2014 from Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica. The group characterised by the antennae being inserted on a rather low protruding shelf, face with papillate sculpture and a largely coriaceous second metasomal tergite, nearly straight thin ovipositor without subapical notch. Two species were tentatively included there: O. mishana Veijalainen, 2014 from Ecuador and Peru, and O. pallidus Veijalainen, 2014 from Belize, Trinidad, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru, as they share a similar antennal insertion and finely striate second tergite with several species of this group, although the facial sculpture differs ( Veijalainen et al. 2014).

Thirteen Mexican species included there: O. aztecus , O. collaris , O. contrerasi , O. mexicanus , O. minor , O. nicaraguensis , O. oaxacae , O. pictus , O. podagricus , O. scabrosus , O. tamaulipecus , O. veracuzus , and O. wahlbergi . Three more Holarctic species occurring in Mexico can also be placed in this group: O. asper ( Gravenhorst, 1829) , O. sannio Holmgren, 1858 and O. winnertzii Förster, 1850 .
