Differential Diagnosis. The aedeagus is very elongate, and in that respect is similar to the aedeagi of L. lobatus and L. labratus . Also, in all three species the internal capsule is relatively small and located in the distal portion of the main piece. However, the curvatures, shapes and details of the apical part of the main piece differ distinctively in the three species ( Figs. 154, 155, 156). Externally, L. bergsteni is more distinctly teardrop shaped, and is slightly larger than the compared species. The habitus of L. bergsteni is more similar to that of L. maximadus , but the aedeagi of the two species differ markedly ( Figs. 154, 161).

Description. Size: holotype (length/width, mm): body (length to elytral apices) 0.97/0.56; head width 0.39; pronotum 0.25/0.56; elytra 0.63/0.56; approximate height, lateral view 0.39. Dorsum brown to piceous, head and pronotum sometimes darker than elytra. Body form distinctively drop-shaped. Pronotum with disc strongly shining, non-microreticulate, very sparsely finely punctulate, punctures without apparent setae; area posterior to eye (side view) with slightly larger punctures. Elytra non-microreticulate or very weakly effacedly so, with punctures similar to those on pronotum.

Males with first three pro- and mesotarsal segments slightly enlarged, with adhesive setae. Labroclypeal suture arcuate in frontal view in both sexes. Labrum simple, similar in sexes. Elytral apices truncate in both sexes.

Etymology. Named in honor of Johannes Bergsten, organizer of the highly successful Madagascar water beetle survey project.
