Protozantaena Perkins View in CoL
Protozantaena Perkins, 1997: 174 View in CoL (type species Protozantaena labrata Perkins View in CoL , by original designation).
Diagnosis. Recognized by the very small size (length ca. 1.35–1.75 mm); the rather flattened body form; the tenarticled antenna (five + club); the lack of an hypomeral carina; the hypomeral antennal pocket setae forming a strong cup; the weakly developed ocelli located between the midline and the eyes; and the transverse pronotum with anterior hyaline margin and lacking postocular emarginations. Refer to Perkins (2009) for comparisons with other genera of Parhydraenini .
The two new species described herein brings the total to five in Madagascar. There is one described species each from Namibia and Tanzania ( Perkins 2009). The Tanzanian species is morphologically distinct in some characters, and preliminary DNA sequence data suggest that it might represent a separate genus (I. Ribera, pers. com.).
