Centaurea depressa Marschall von Bieberstein (1808: 346) . Type:— GEORGIA. In collibus siccis Iberiae, circa Tiflis, 1806, Steven s.n. (lectotype LE 01024093! designated by Czerepanov (1963: 413), isolectotype LE 01024094!).

Centaurea depressa var. amasiana Bornmüller (1905: 260) . Type:— TURKEY. Amasya: at Khaousa , 400–600 m, 10 May 1889, Bornmüller 540 (holotype B, isotype BM000552000 !).

Distribution: — Cyanus depressus is widely distributed in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Geogria, Greece, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Spain, Syria, W Tibet, Turkey, Ukraine, southwest and central Asia and SE Europe ( Czerepanov 1963, Wagenitz 1975, 1980, 2019, Boršić et al. 2011). Its distribution is wider in comparison to the other species of the genus. Cyanus depressus is a widespread element in Turkey and can be found in most parts of the country ( Fig. 3 ).
