Hydaticus fractivittis Guignot, 1951 View in CoL

( Fig. 3A View FIGURE 3 )

Hydaticus fractivittis Guignot, 1951: 22 View in CoL ; Roughley & Pengelly 1981: 281; Trémouilles 1996: 19; Nilsson & Hájek 2019: 93.

Type locality. Brazil, São Paulo, Araca .

Material examined. PARAGUAY: “ Paraguay, Zorilla , 16-20.x.1992, Drechsel leg.”, 1 ex., ( CLH) .

Diagnosis. TL 12.2 mm; TL-H = 11.5 mm; MW 6.4 mm; pronotum testaceous with a black band on the anterior and posterior margin; elytra piceous with sublateral yellowish stripe often reduced to humeral angle or extended to middle part; elytron with subbasal transverse fascia absent and with a small lateral spot just behind middle, and another small spot close to elytral apex (see Trémouilles 1996); protarsomere I without a series of spines across the dorsal surface; metatibia with bifid setae parallel on posterior surface; median lobe of aedeagus with angulate tip in lateral view.

Differential diagnosis. Hydaticus fractivittis can be confused with the Neotropical species H. bimarginatus and H. rimosus ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ) due to the similar colour pattern, but can be separated from both by the characters given in the identification key and the metatibia with bifid setae parallel on posterior surface.

Distribution. Prior to this study, H. fractivittis has been recorded from Brazil only ( Trémouilles 1996). Its range of distribution has extended now westwards to Paraguay.

Ecology. Nothing is known about life history of this species, except that it is recorded from lower altitudes only.
