Samuraia tabularasa Mangin, 1991: 445 View in CoL , figs 1–5.

Material examined. Stn. CHN — 06.xii.2010, S22 (5 m): four polyps detached from their substrate, three of which bear gonophores (MHNG-INVE-79611).

Remarks. The present material is scarce and, in order to preserve its full integrity, only superficial observations have been made. It corresponds in every respect to the account by Mangin (1991), who provided a comprehensive description of this species. Polyps in our material have 15–22 tentacles, and the largest one bears a maximum of a dozen pedicellate gonophores in various stages of development; owing to their opaqueness, their sex could not be ascertained; however, the radial canals and the four marginal bulbs, are comparatively more obvious, being situated more superficially.

Distribution in Chile. The present record is from Chaihuin.

World records. The sole published record is from the Gulf of California ( Mangin 1991), but the species is expected to occur southwards along the Pacific coasts of Central and South America.
