Mutilla Clio Blake, 1879 . Trans. Amer. Ent. Soc. 7:251. Holotype female, Vancouver’s Island (H. Edwards) [ANSP] (examined).
Diagnosis of Female. This subspecies of D. californica varies from the nominate species only in having the apical fringes of terga II to IV interrupted medially with black setae.
Male. Unknown.
Distribution. USA (Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington); Canada (British Columbia); Mexico.
Remarks. The subspecies is known only from the female and is not nearly as common as the nominate species. It is known from only several dozen specimens. All known specimens have been examined.
