Dasymutilla imperialis Manley and Pitts, 2004 . J. Kans. Ent. Soc. 77:646. Holotype male, California, Imperial County, Glamis Dunes , 1 mi. W. Glamis, 7 October 1988 (T. Griswold) [EMUS] (examined).

Diagnosis of Male (Plate C5C). This recently-described species is easily identified by having both the integument and the setae entirely black, and by the presence of a pit filled with setae on sternum II. Also, the antennal scrobe is weakly carinate dorsally, and the pygidium lacks an apical fringe of setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. USA (California); Mexico (Baja California Sur).

Remarks. This species is known only from the male and from only nine specimens, all of which have been examined.
