Distribution. AFR_SAR species, occurring in western, central, and eastern Africa (AO, ER, ET, KE, NE, SD, SO, TD) extending northward to North Africa (DZ, EG, LY, MR) and eastward to IL and the Arabian Peninsula (AE, SA ( El-Hawagry et al. 2013), YE ( Britton 1948; Felix et al. 2012).
Life forms and Remarks. ZS(C)EG species. Britton (1948) described Tachys arabicus from Yemen, this name was later synonymized with Tachyura sudanensis Schatzmayer & Kock, 1934 . In 1968, Basilewsky reported S. conspicuus (as Tachyphanes conspicuus ) from Yemen and indicated that it is the same as T. sudanensis and T. arabicus . Basilewsky (1979) listed the species in combination with Tachyphanes Jeannel, 1946 from Asir Province. El-Hawagry et al. (2013) later listed the species in combination with Elaphropus Motschulsky, 1839 from Baha Province. Sciaky & Vigna-Taglianti (2003) treated this species as a species of Sphaerotachys . The adult specimens were collected at different altitudes (1150–2578 m) from various vegetation communities ( Acacia spp., Opuntia ficus-indica , Olea europaea and African pencil cedar forest) of GRNR and its bottom.
