HOLOTYPE FEMALE. Idiosoma vermiform, 325, 63 wide. Prodorsal shield subtriangular, with anterior margin weakly rounded and slightly indented medially. Prodorsal shield ornamentation consisting of median, two admedian, four submedian and two arc-like lines. Median line short, visible in posterior third or half of shield and crossed by short, transverse line forming indistinct cruciform figure. Admedian lines slightly diverging in posterior third of shield and converging anteriorly, together forming a bottle-like figure. Two tiny lines present between median and admedian lines near posterior shield margin. Submedian 1 and 2 lines short, present in anterior half of shield. In three paratypes, submedian-2 posteriorly joins arc-like line surrounding tubercle sc. Submedian-3 with 4 short lines laterad of prodorsal shield, lateral to tubercles of sc and ve. Submedian-4 posteriorly curved. Eye-like area of flat cuticle1 laterally to ve not apparent. Otherwise typical for many Oziella spp., distinct granulation on surface of prodorsal shield anterior to ve not apparent. Leg II 26, tibia 6, tarsus 4, u' 2, ft' 17, ft'' 20, ω 8, without knob; empodium 7/6-rayed, 10 long; bv 10. Coxae without several strong longitudinal lines and granulation anterior to tubercles of setae 1b and 2a. Subcapitular plate rounded, flat. Setae 1b 8, 16 apart; 1a 12, 11 apart; 2a 65, 29 apart. Prosternal apodeme well developed, entire (not divided anteriorly) and three-forked posteriorly. Genital coverflap 7, 22 wide, flat, slightly indented posteromedially; 3a 13; three complete and one-two incomplete annuli present anterior to epigynium.

Host plant. Kobresia myosuroides (Villars) Fiori (Cyperaceae) .
Relation to the host plant. The mites were found living inside the leaf sheaths, causing no apparent damage.
Type material. Female holotype (slide #K-2-06/2) and 8 paratypes (6 females, 1 damaged male and 1 damaged nymph, all on slide #K-2-06/1) are deposited in the Acarological Collection of the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences ( ZIN RAS). All specimens collected from RUSSIA: Kamchatka Peninsula, Mil’kovsky District, 1 km east to the settlement Atlasovo near Tolbachik volcanic complex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B), 22 August 2006, coll. P.G. Efimov.
Distribution. Oziella ovalis n. sp. is at present recorded from the Russian Far East (Kamchatka Peninsula). However, Kobresia myosuroides , the host of Oziella ovalis n. sp., is widely distributed in the temperate Northern Hemisphere (in Europe, North America and temperate Asia), so future surveys could reveal a wider distribution for this new mite species.
Etymology. The specific epithet, ovalis , is a feminine singular adjective referring to the contour of the epigynium of the new species: it is narrow; coverflap flange is remarkably rounded posteriorly so that the shape of epigynium is close to an ellipse in comparison to a more pointed (posteriorly) and thus subtriangular epigynium which is found in many other Oziella spp.
Differential diagnosis. The new species possess an uncommonly shaped posteriorly rounded epigynium, not recorded in other Oziella spp. Excluding this, O. ovalis n. sp. is close to Oziella liroi ( Roivainen 1947) . These two species differ in the ornamentation of the prodorsal shield, the number of empodial rays and the lengths of the prodorsal shield and epigynium ( Table 2 View TABLE 2 ).
