Galacantha rostrata A. Milne-Edwards, 1880

Galacantha rostrata has been reported previously as Munidopsis rostrata and is cosmopolitan ( Baba et al. 2008) in depths of 1600 to 3800 m (de Saint Laurent 1985; Macpherson 2007). We analyzed specimens from the Caribbean to the east coast of the United States in depths of 1288 to 3145 m. Specimens were collected in June, July, and August; ovigerous specimens were not collected ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 A). Four males (CW from 16.2 to 21.8 mm) and six non-ovigerous females (CW from 9.2 to 22.9 mm) were measured. Males were not significantly larger than females (t-test, df = 8, t = 1.653, p = 0.137); however this result is not consistent with previous reports, where ovigerous females were significantly larger than males and females ( Wenner 1982). The lack of ovigerous females most likely affected this analysis.
