Genus Labena Cresson View in CoL View at ENA
Labena occurs primarily in the Australasian and Neotropical regions, with just two species in the Nearctic region; there are nearly 50 described species, but the true species richness of this genus is much higher ( González-Moreno et al. 2015). Gauld (2000) recognized 21 species in his revision of the Costa Rican Labeninae . Bordera et al. (2010) provided evidence that L. striata Townes & Townes is restricted to South America and described a new species, L. gauldiana Bordera, González-Moreno & Sääksjärvi , for the specimen that Gauld referred to as L. striata . With the new species described below there are now 22 species known from the country. Although there are no host records from Costa Rica, in North America and Chile species in this genus parasitize the larvae of Buprestidae and Cerambycidae (see references in Gauld 2000).
