As is clear from the checklist, 194 ostracod species, referred to 2 subclasses, 3 orders, 7 suborders, 22 families and 74 genera, are reported for Peter the Great Bay. Both the shell and soft parts were described for 76 species, 117 species have been described from the shells only, and 85 species are in open nomenclature, most of them new. The ostracod diversity of Peter the Great Bay is not limited to the listed species. Our collection includes more than 400 species from this region, and I believe that the ostracod fauna of the bay may amount to no fewer than 450 species. There is much work to do, comprising the inventory of the ostracod fauna, description of new species, and additional descriptions of soft parts for the species known in shells.
