Adults of this genus have the following unique combination of character states within the Hermanniidae : notogastral setae flat, 16 pairs, blade-like or foliate, never bacilliform; rarely setiform; exobothridial ridge terminating in posteriolateral enantiophysis; paired median prodorsal condyles often present. Apodeme II and sejugal apodeme convex; junction of apodeme II and sejugal apodeme with sternal apodeme acute, never at right angles. Setae of epimere IV differing in length; never all sub-equal. With two pairs of aggenital setae; typically with six pairs of genital setae in median file and three in lateral file; occasionally with genital neotrichy. Genital plate with median carina. Genital and anal plates separated by strip of cuticle: anterior margin of preanal organ separate from posterior genital plate, never with genital and anal plates contiguous or preanal organ abutting posterior genital plate. Anal plates elongated, oval, external edges rounded, not parallel; anal setae separated by at least their length, positioned on central part of plate; never with apices overlapping or both positioned on anterior part of plate. Three pairs of adanal setae. Anteriolateral margin of ventral plate with well-developed sclerotised projection and longitudinal ridge (ano-gastronotic suture of Woas, 2002). Tarsus monodactylous. Tarsus I with one solenidion, never with two. Gena with two setae: either with seta a and m normally-developed, setiform, or with seta m reduced to a short spine or peg; occasionally an extra, reduced, seta (m 2) present.
