Type (lectotype, designated here):— ARGENTINA. Cordoba (F barcode F0BN012657 (photograph) [digital image!], available at http:// plants.jstor.org/stable/viewer/10.5555/al.ap.specimen.f0bn012657; isolectotype K barcode K531346 [digital image!]) .

Notes:—In the protologue of G. microphyllum, Baillon (1873) mentioned that the type is deposited at P. According to Stafleu & Cowan (1979), all the Baillon type specimens form part of the herbiers historiques at P. Three sheets under the name P. microphylla and labelled as isotypes were found in P (P 03192610, P 03192611, P 03192613). The general condition of the specimens are similar (modest to poor), but the specimen P 03192613 presents a bit better material and has Weddel’s signature on the original label. This gives the specimen a better status than the others. Still, the material available in the designated lectotype is not enough for diagnostic purposes. Therefore, the specimen SI 092599 is designated here as epitype for being very well preserved with sufficient material for identification ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ). Furthermore, this collection is from La Paz ( Bolivia), next to Cochabamba, the department from where the name was described.

In the protologue of P. lorentzii, Engler only mentioned that the specimen is from Cordoba, without a reference to the collector or specimen. From the specific epithet, it is presumed that the specimen was collected by Lorentz. Both Engler and Lorentz deposited the main part of its original collection at B, mostly destroyed ( Stafleu & Cowan 1979, http://bgbm3.bgbm.fu-berlin.de/BGBM/research/colls/herb/phanerog.htm). A specimen from K (K531346) and a photograph from the original material at F (F0BN012657) coincide with the protologue data. The specimen from K is in a very poor condition, so the photograph F0BN012657 is designated here as lectotype. All vegetative parts can be seen in the photograph and be used to identify the taxon.
