In the protologue, it was stated that the species appears closely similar to L. minima (Bentham, 1846: 420) Mukerjee (1945: 132) but differs in its larger, ovate-acute, prominently serrate, pinnately veined leaves and prominently spurred staminodes. During the present investigation, we have collected L. calemeriana from its type locality and also from some other places. Subsequent studies have shown that morphological characters of L. calemeriana exactly match with another Asian species, Lindernia srilankana described by Cramer and Philcox (1974: 35) from Sri Lanka. After a detailed analysis of morphological characters of both the species along with protologue and type specimen we confirmed that the former is conspecific with the later. We could not find any considerable character differences between these two species (Table 1) and hence propose that L. calemeriana Sivar. should be treated as a new synonym of L. srilankana L.H. Haines 1922

Identity of Lindernia parviflora

The name Lindernia parviflora was established by Haines (1922: 635) based on Gratiola parviflora described by Roxburgh (1819: 3) in his ‘ Plants of the Coast of Coromandel’. Before Haines (1922) two more new combinations were made by Bentham (1831 & 1846) as Bonnaya parviflora (Roxb.) Bentham (1831: no. 3867) and Ilysanthes parviflora (Roxb.) Bentham (1846: 419). During the present study we critically analysed the characters of L. parviflora based on the fresh specimens along with relevant literature sources. As a result, it is concluded that the morphological characters as stated in its protologue shows close similarities and falls within the range of variation seen in the widely distributed taxon, Lindernia dubia (Linnaeus, 1753: 17) Pennell (1935: 141). A comparison of morphological characters (Table 2) and type specimens urges us to merge both the species. Thus we treat L. parviflora (Roxb.) Haines as a new synonym of L. dubia (L.) Pennell.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03E43741FFBEFFD3E392FC097DA8BEF6	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009. In addition, Cramer provided a statement of examination of additional materials from type locality as well as “ the foot of Gunner’s Quoin, Polonnaruwa district, North Central Province ” and cited a specimen numbered “ Cramer 4000 ”, housed at CAL, PDA and US. As part of the present study, we communicated with the authorities of the above said herbaria for the materials cited in the protologue and came to know that the type specimens are no longer available. However, we could trace out a herbarium sheet from PDA with a slip bearing a handwritten annotation “ CR 4000 ” as mentioned in the protologue. It is very clear from the printed label pasted on the sheet that the material is one of the original collections by authors from the type locality. Since the originally designated type specimens are missing, the sheet bearing the accession number “ CR 4000 ” is selected for designating as lectotype. On the sheet three individuals are found well mounted. The characters fit well with the original description. Hence, we designate “ CR 4000 ” as Lectotype of L. srilankana L.H. Cramer & Philcox.

https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03E43741FFBEFFD7E392F8FC7970BB09	Public Domain	No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009.
