1.1.2. Neurolaena intermedia Rydberg (1927: 307) (Fig. 1).

Brief description:—Shrubs 2.5–3.5 m tall. Leaf petiole 18–25 mm long, blade 10–26 × 4–8 cm, margin entire, venation camptodromous, abaxial surface eglandular; capitula discoid, involucre 7.4–8.8 × 2.8–6.8 mm, cylindrical, phyllaries sparsely puberulous or glabrous; receptacle holopaleaceous, paleae 6.1–6.5 mm long; disc florets 20–30 per capitulum, corolla 5–5.9 mm long, pale yellow to yellow; cypselae 2.2–2.35 mm long, eglandular, pappus 50–60 bristles.

Neurolaena intermedia is one of the three species of Neurolaena ( N. macrophylla and N. oaxacana) that has a hemipaleaceous receptacle.

Geographic distribution: —Endemic to Guatemala (NY 230778!) (Fig. 1).
