Comments: Occurrences of this species in inland saline water bodies of Europe are all probably the result of deliberate introduction as a food source. The Caspian Sea was stocked with the species during 1939–41, but it was misidentified and treated as Alitta succinea for two decades (Hartman 1960). It also occurs in the Aral Sea (Andreev et al. 1992) and Black Sea (Manoleli 1980).
