As currently known, this is a locally restricted endemic, known from only a handful of collections, all of them from adjacent localities at the northern end of the Serranía de Huanchaca around 13°39´S and 60°50´W at 200–400 (–850) m., Peña & Foster 223 (holotype NY photo!; isotype USZ!); Gutierrez et al. 888 (K!, USZ!); Killeen et al. 5412 (K!, USZ!). A distinctive species with a large exserted efoliate panicle of globose capitula and whole plant densely hispid with 2–4mm setae. One of three Huanchaca endemics along with M. suberosa and M. rastrera .
