TYPE LOCALITY: Guinea coast, no exact locality given, " ...dans toutes les forêts de la Guiné ..." Given by Ingoldby (1927) as Ghana: "Secondi and Bibiani, Gold Coast."

DISTRIBUTION: E Liberia, S Ivory Coast, S Ghana (E to Lake Volta).

SYNONYMS: savannius Thomas, 1923.

COMMENTS: Treated as a subspecies of H. gambianus by Ingoldby (1927), Ellerman (1940), Rosevear (1969), and Amtmann (1975). Considered a distinct species by Allen (1939), and Roth and Thorington (1982).
