DISTRIBUTION: Sulawesi; Buton and Sangihe (= Sanghir) Isis.

SYNONYMS: elbertae (Schwarz, 1911); hirsutus (Hayman, 1946); mowewensis (Roux, 1910); occidentalis (Meyer, 1898); rosenbergii (Jentink, 1879); sarasinorum (Meyer, 1898); tingahi (Meyer, 1896); tonkeanus (Meyer, 1896); topapuensis (Roux, 1910).

COMMENTS: Formerly included in Callosciurus; see Moore (1958). Feiler (1990) raised the insular rosenbergii (including tingahi) to full specific status. For authority and date, see comments under Rubrisciurus rubriventer .
