TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Amazonas, north of the Rio Negro, Marabitanos .
DISTRIBUTION: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.
SYNONYMS: cocalis Thomas, 1900; duida J. A. Allen, 1914; fulminatus Thomas, 1926; manhanensis (Moojen, 1942); taedifer Thomas, 1900; zamorae J. A. Allen, 1914.
COMMENTS: Subgenus Urosciurus; see Patton (1984). Lawrence (1988:1) restricted duida to this species although it has also been referred to S. spadiceus; the holotype is a composite.
