Remarks. This is a common deepwater species collected by bottom trawls, more abundant off southwestern than in northeastern Taiwan. It is likely a senior synonym of Macrocephenchelys soela Castle, 1990, described from Australia. According to Karmovskaya (2004), this species also occurs in the Philippines and New Caledonia.
