Enchelycore bikiniensis (Schultz, 1953)

NJdAEWdR

Gymnothorax bikiniensis Schultz in Schultz et al., 1953:116, figs. 23e, 24 (Type locality: Cherry Island, Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands).

Enchelycore bikiniensis (Schultz, 1953): Shen et al., 1993:100, fig. 15-3; Chen et al., 1994:47; Loh et al., in press:table 1.

Remarks. The presence of this species in Taiwan is questionable. It was recorded by Shen et al. (1993) and Chen et al. (1994), but the latter remarked on its similarity to Enchelycore schismatorhynchus and questioned whether those two species were distinct. They are in fact easily distinguished by the funnel-shaped nostril of E. schismatorhynchus and by the number of vertebrae, 146–153 in E. bikiniensis and 137–142 in E. schismatorhynchus (Smith, 2012) .
