Remarks. Even if the species was described on the basis of specimens collected in America, the origin of the species is probably North Africa, given that insect remains were discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun (Retief & Nicholas 1988). In Europe, it was first recorded in France in 1848 (Runner 1919). It feeds on plant-based materials, and as its popular name suggests (cigarette beetle), it is an important pest of tobacco (Teodorescu et al. 2006); in addition, Lasioderma serricorne is a contaminant in sheds, warehouses, and living quarters (Burcea 1985; PaȘol et al. 2013). In Romania, the species is present in all regions, with a detailed distribution not given.
