Cryptalaus tamargrahensis Akhter, Drumont, Rizvi & Ahmed, 2012

Cryptalaus tamargrahensis Akhter, Drumont, Rizvi &Ahmed, 2012: 51 (original description; type locality: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan); Platia & Pulvirenti, 2021: 180 (new distributional record for India); Hoffmannova et al., 2023: 292 (catalogue).

Distribution. INDIA: Uttarakhand.

Remarks. Akhter et al. (2012: 52) stated this species comes closer to Cryptalaus enquis [sic] Candèze without attributing the correct year (unavailable name, incorrect subsequent spelling; ICZN 1999, Art. 33.3). The species referred in Akhter et al. (2012) likely is Alaus anguis Candèze, 1865 (should be transferred to Cryptalaus). After comparing the dorsal habitus photographs of C. tamargrahensis with syntype specimens of Alaus anguis (photographs provided by K. Matsumoto, Natural History Museum, London), it seems that both these species show a great level of affinity in dorsal habitus, almost similar pattern of scale-like pubescence, and elytral apex round (see Akhter et al. 2012; Platia & Pulvirenti 2021; Hoffmannova et al. 2023 for dorsal habitus). A thorough examination is required to reveal if these two species are conspecific.
