Cryptalaus rotundoextremus (Vats & Kashyap, 1992) comb. nov.

Chalcolepis rotundoextremus Vats & Kashyap, 1992: 195 (original description; type locality: Mohan, Ramnagar, Nainital district, Uttarakhand, India); Cate, 2007: 208 (placed in Elateridae as species incertae sedis).

Distribution. INDIA: Uttarakhand.

Remarks. The genus Chalcolepis Candèze, 1857 is found in the American region and the morphological characters mentioned in the original description are not like those of Chalcolepis (Casari 2008) . It is clear from the original description that the species should be transferred to the genus Cryptalaus and thus, we propose Cryptalaus rotundoextremus (Vats & Kashyap, 1992) comb. nov. Interestingly, this species comes closer to Cryptalaus lynceus (Candèze, 1874) in morphological characters and habitus photographs (see Vats & Kashyap 1992; Parekar & Patwardhan 2021). Both these species are only known from female specimens and are from North India region. A thorough examination of the holotype of this species is needed to elucidate their taxonomic relationship with each other.
