Cryptalaus nigrimaculatus (Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996) comb. nov.

Chalcolepis nigrimaculatus Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996: 65 (original description; type locality: Jatinga, Dima Hasao district, Assam, India).

Distribution. INDIA: Assam.

Remarks. The genus Chalcolepis Candèze, 1857 is distributed in the Neotropics and the morphological characters mentioned in the original description of this species do not corroborate with this American genus (Casari 2008). Based on the original description (Punam, Vats & Saini 1996: 65), the species is transferred to the genus Cryptalaus, and we propose Cryptalaus nigrimaculatus (Punam, Vats & Saini, 1996) comb. nov. This species resembles Cryptalaus assamensis (Schwarz, 1902) in morphological characters and pronotum illustration (see Punam, Vats & Saini 1996; Parekar & Patwardhan 2021). The examination of the type of C. nigrimaculatus in future may reveal if these two species are conspecific or congeneric.
