Larval host plant(s): Arrhenaterum elatius (L.) Beauv. Ex J. & C. Presl, Festuca arundinacea Schreber, Holcus mollis L., Phleum pretense L. (all Poaceae) (Stainton 1858a: Emmet 1991; Bland 1996).

Remarks: Herrich-Schäffer’s name Poeciloptilia rufocinerella is to be considered a misspelling of rufocinerea, the spelling used by Herrich-Schäffer (1855) in both the key (p. 302) and in parentheses “(- nerea),” as well as in the entry of rufocinerea (p. 312). Morris (1870: 228) validated the name rufocinerella . However, he followed Haworth, 1828: 535 in regards to the identity of the species. E. rufocinerella is thus an unjustified emendation.
