Gambrinus rufipennis (Lewis, 1894): Paik et al. 1993: 127 (fauna: Is. Jeju), misidentification of Corymbitodes sp. Limoniscus rufipennis (Lewis, 1894): Cate, 2007: 165 (catalogue)
Specimens examined. Three specimens labeled as “ Gambrinus rufipennis (Lewis, 1894) ”: 2 females, Mt. Halla, Eorimok, Jeju. 23. V. 1992. Kim [FNMJ]; male, Songpanak, Jeju. 3. VI. 1992. S. S. Lee. But these are Corymbitodes sp. No Korean specimens of L. rufipennis were available for study.
Reference species. Limoniscus rufipennis (Lewis, 1894): male, Jojusha, Mt. Ishizushi, Ehime Pref. Shikoku, Japan. 5. V. 1998. M. Shiraishi leg; female, Ehime-ken, Japan, 23. V. 1999. M. Shiraishi; male, Mt. Honnita, Tokyo, Japan. 20. May. 1970. Leg. N. Minagana, DNA 2512. All reference specimens were identified by Dr. H. Ôhira.
Remarks. Limoniscus rufipennis is a Japanese endemic species occurring from Honshu to Kyushu. The Korean specimen labeled “ Gambrinus rufipennis ” reported by Paik et al (1993), were examined to us in 2009. However, this was a misidentification of a Corymbitodes sp. as recorded by Kishii and Paik (2002). We have not been able to examine a verified specimen of L. rufipennis from Korea. Therefore, we propose exclusion of this species from the Korean fauna.
Distribution. Japan (endemic)
