Type material examined ( Pseudotrochalus sulcipennis [Gerstäcker, 1867]); Lectotype (here designated): ɗ "44366 / Type / sulcipennis Gerst. * Endara Decken" (ZMHB). Paralectotypes: 1 ɗ, 2 ex. (sex unknown) "Endara / Typus / Hist coll. ( Coleoptera) Nr. 44366 Trochalus sulcipennis Gerst. Endara, v.D. Decken Zool. Mus. Berlin" (ZMHB).
Remarks: The genus presently includes about 34 species but probably many other species so far assigned to Trochalus Laporte, 1832 should be transferred to Pseudotrochalus . In order to accommodate Pseudotrochalus in the current framework of existing genera in the tribe (principally based also on the works of Brenske and Moser) I selected the type specimen based on taxa present in the ZMHB. Of these taxa, the types of T. sulcipennis were more common and better preserved.
