Micropygomyia (Micropygomyia) cayennensis (Floch and Abonnenc 1941)
(= Lutzomyia (Micropygomyia) cayennensis (Floch and Abonnenc 1941) sensu Young and Duncan 1994)
Phlebotomus cayennensis Floch and Abonnenc 1941a, 13 (male). Type-locality: French Guiana, Cayenne, Montjoly.
Lutzomyia (Micropygomyia) cayennensis (Floch and Abonnenc): Young and Duncan 1994, 643 (taxonomy, references); Ibáñez-Bernal 2003, 114 (diagnosis, synonyms, references, Mexican records).
Micropygomyia (Micropygomyia) cayennensis (Floch and Abonnenc): Galati 2003: 34, 83 (list, keys).
Ibáñez-Bernal (2003) synonymized Micropygomyia farilli (Vargas and Díaz-Nájera 1959), Mi. hardisoni (Vargas and Díaz-Nájera 1952) and Mi. wirthi (Vargas and Díaz-Nájera 1951) with Mi. cayennensis . The type specimen of Mi. wirthi (a female) is from El Carrizal, Veracruz (undetermined Municipality, but corresponding to the municipality of Emiliano Zapata). This species was known only from the type locality until it was collected from two additional municipalities. A lack of females in our collections prevents us from assigning specimens to any of the recognized subspecies.
Material examined. Mexico: Veracruz, Municipality of Tlalixcoyan, Tuzales, 18-04-2001, tree hole, M. Carrasco, col., 3 males; Municipality of Paso de Ovejas, Puente Jula, 13-03-2001, tree hole, M. Carrasco, col., 7 males.
