Paradisea mixta Rothschild
Paradisea mixta Rothschild, 1921b: 127 (Habitat?).
Now considered a hybrid Paradisaea minor finschi X Paradisaea raggiana augustaevictoriae . See Hartert, 1928: 190; Stresemann, 1930: 14; Mayr, 1962d: 204; Gilliard, 1969: 64–65; Fuller, 1995: 118–125, pl. 40; and Frith and Beehler, 1998: 505–506, pl. 15 (9).
SYNTYPES: AMNH 679102, AMNH 679103 [adult males], collecting locality unknown. From the Rothschild Collection.
COMMENTS: No type was designated in the original description, but Rothschild stated that he had two males. AMNH 679102 is the specimen bearing the Rothschild type label, but AMNH 679103 is the specimen that bears the annotation ‘‘trade skin, came over soon after the war’’ that is mentioned by Hartert (1928: 190) as applying to the type. Because the specimen that Hartert listed as the type is not the specimen bearing the Rothschild type label, it seems best to treat the specimens as syntypes. An AMNH type label has been added to AMNH 679103.
