HOLOTYPE: AMNH 676461, adult male, collected on Mount Idhi (= Mount Ida or Mount Nidha, as on label), 4500 ft, 35.18N, 24.43E (USBGN, 1955a), Crete, Greece, on 15 June 1920, by R. Meinertzhagen. From the Rothschild Collection.
COMMENTS: In the original description, Meinertzhagen gave the above locality and date for the type and noted that it was in the Rothschild Collection. He did not list his specimens, although it is obvious from the description that he had more than one, and from his specifying that the ‘‘differences in colour are more noticeable in the juvenile plumage than among adults.’’ A juvenile specimen, a paratype, also came to AMNH: Mount Ida, AMNH 676462, juvenile, 28 June 1920, by Meinertzhagen.
