Orthocis Casey, 1898

The genus Orthocis appears to be a monophyletic group with a more or less cosmopolitan distribution, but the characters separating it from species of Cis are relatively subtle. In general, species in this genus are characterised by having an elongate, more or less parallel-sided, slightly flattened body, subglabrous upper surfaces, moderately long, flat or slightly tumid prosternum, simple protibial apices in both sexes, an apical deviation in the internal edge of one elytron, so that a small flange is exposed, and a lack of frontoclypeal or pronotal modifications in the male. In addition, most of the species with known hosts feed primarily on the basidiomes of Auriculariaceae .
