Distribution. Western Atlantic: USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Gulf of Mexico and Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) (Coelho 1997b; Melo 1998; Coelho et al. 2008; present study).

Remarks. The specimens from Ceará agree well with Coelho (1997b) ’s diagnosis of Pinnixa sayana, including the armature on the fixed finger of the female chelipeds.
