Taxonomic history. Reduced to subgeneric status (in Smicromyrme Thomson, 1870) by Bradley & Bequaert, 1923: 229. Reinstated to generic status by Nonveiller in FAO, 1975: 170 and Nonveiller, 1977: 298. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The female of the type species was described by Bingham, 1912: 532.
