Type species. Pseudomutilla sardiniensis Costa, 1885 (male erroneously stated as female), by monotypy (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla capitata Lucas, 1849 (male), according to Costa, 1887: 157). The later designation of Mutilla capitata Lucas, 1849 by Bischoff, 1920: 54, is invalid.

Sex association. The female of the type species has not been recognized as such; the female of its senior synonym was associated and identified (as Mutilla parvicollis Costa, 1860: 35) by Morawitz, 1865: 98.
