Psiloochyrocera tortilis new species

Type material. Male holotype from Ecuador, Los Ríos Province, Río Palenque (CCRP), 0 3 March 1979, Leg., Vargas (QCAZ). EXAMINED.

Other material examined. None.

Etymology. The specific epithet is a latin adjective, meaning twisted in reference to the twisted male palpal bulb.

Diagnosis. Males are distinguished from Psiloochyrocera cajanuma by their unique twisted palpal bulb (Fig. 49) and the absence of forwardly directed setae on the head (Fig. 48).

Description. Male: Total length: 1.0; carapace length: 0.4; carapace width: 0.5.

PROSOMA: Carapace pyriform, narrowing abruptly anteriorly; shiny, light yellow with purplish-brown lateral bands and trident mark medially; pars cephalica flat; fovea not visible (Fig. 48). Sternum light yellow, lightly suffused with purplish-brown; as long as wide. Endites and labium light yellow lightly suffused with purplishbrown, labium notched. Clypeus sloping; high (3x PME). Chelicerae light yellow; promargin with a series of six to seven large teeth reaching the lamina; retromargin without denticles. EYES: Six eyes surrounded by black pigmentation about equal size; PME rounded, sligthly separated; PME-ALE contiguous; ALE rounded contiguous with PLE; PLE rounded (Fig. 48). OPISTHOSOMA: Oval; light yellowish with purplish-brown pattern (Fig. 48); tracheal spiracle closer to epigastric furrow. LEGS: Light yellow; tip of femur, tibia, metatarsus and tarsus suffused with purplish; legs II-IV missing; legs total length: I: 4.5; III 3.2. GENITALIA: Palpal tibia straight; with three dorsal, one retrolateral trichobothria (Fig. 49). Cymbium conical, short with prolateral extension (Fig. 50). Bulb elongated, twisted (Figs 49, 50). Embolus short and wide (Fig. 50); sperm duct not observed.

Female: Unknown.

Distribution. Ecuador: Los Ríos Province.

Natural history. Collected in a humid tropical forest at an altitudinal range between 100– 800m.
