Chthonius (Chthonius) subterraneus subterraneus: Szent-Ivány 1941: 86; Beier 1963a: 47.

Chthonius subterraneus: Szalay 1968: 36; Červená et al. 2020a: 221; WPC 2023.

Occurrence: Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro (WPC 2023).

Reorted localities in Hungary: Mátraháza (Szent-Ivány 1941).

New data: nil.

Habitat preference: unknown.

Remarks: The species was originally described from Montenegro (Beier 1931), and its only record from Hungary was from Mátraháza (Szent-Ivány 1941; Krumpál & Krumpálová 2003). During the examination of this specimen I have found that it lacks both chelae, therefore, I could not confirm its specific identity. Following Gardini (2014), the occurrence of this species in Hungary is doubtful.
