Habitat preference: Atemnus politus is a thermophilic species, preferring dry habitats, and can be found under stones, under tree bark, and in plant debris (Beier 1963a; Kárpáthegyi 2006). In Slovakia it has been reported from ant nests (Červená et al. 2020b). In Hungary this species prefers dry habitats and southern slopes and has been found under stones of dolomite steppes, in dry bushy forest and in leaf litter of oak forests (Novák 2016).

Remarks: this species was first recorded from Hungary by Szent-Ivány (1941). Since then, it has been reported from several localities (Kárpáthegyi 2006, 2007; Novák 2011, 2013a, 2016).
