Withius piger (Simon, 1878)
Chelifer piger Simon, 1878: 148–149 .

Withius piger: Červená et al. 2020a: 223; WPC 2023.
Not Chelifer subruber Simon: Tömösváry 1882a: 203–204; Daday 1889a: 122, 178; Daday 1918: 2 (misidentification; see Dactylochelifer latreillii).
Not Chelifer disjunctus L. Koch: Tömösváry 1882a: 199–200 (misidentification; see Dactylochelifer latreillii).
Not Withius subruber: Szent-Ivány 1941: 89 (misidentification; see Chernes similis).
Not Withius subruber: Kárpáthegyi 2007: 89 (misidentification; see Lamprochernes chyzeri).
Occurrence: cosmopolitan (WPC 2023).
Known localities in Hungary: Villányi Mts; Mecsek Mts; Bükk Mts; Aggtelek Karst (Loksa 1966).
New data: nil.
Habitat preference: this species is usually associated with stored grains (Legg & Jones 1988).
Remarks: After examining the specimens studied by Tömösváry (1882a), Daday (1889a) and Szent-Ivány (1941), it became clear that these belong to Dactylochelifer latreillii and Chernes similis, and not W. piger . The only recently published data are specimens reported by Kárpáthegyi (2007), which are actually Lamprochernes chyzeri . Unfortunately the deposition of the material published by Loksa (1966) is unknown, therefore I did not have an opportunity to check the identification. As Loksa have investigated bushy-forest areas, which do not match the habitat preference of the species, it is almost certain that they are misidentified. Therefore, based on its earlier reported data I consider the occurrence of W. piger in Hungary to be doubtful.
