Type material. The Deshayes collection, which was part of the ‘Ecole des Mines Collection’, is stored at the Université Claude Bernard since 1978. Seven syntypes of Vermetus milleti are glued on a label; the syntype illustrated by Deshayes (1850) has the inventory number UCBL-EM 32115.
Studied material. 2 spec. NHMW 1856/0035/0193, Steinebrunn (Austria), syntypes of Vermetus carinatus Hörnes, 1856, 1 spec. NHMW 1876/0011/0077, 1 spec. NHMW 2016/0177/0350, Lăpugiu de Sus (Romania) .

Discussion. Bałuk (1975, 2006) and Landau et al. (2004, 2018) described this species in detail. Most Paratethyan specimens are characterized by two prominent keel-like spiral cords on early teleoconch whorls, resulting in an Archimediella -like appearance. Specimens with three spiral cords and a weak adapical spiral cord are present as well. Therefore, we agree with Bałuk (1975, 2006) and Landau et al. (2004) in synonymizing the Paratethyan Vermetus carinatus Hörnes 1856 [non Quoy & Gaimard 1834] and Vermetus (Vermicularia) pseudoturritella Boettger, 1907 with Vermicularia milleti (Deshayes, 1850) .
Paleoecology. Saint Martin et al. (2000) mention the species from a Badenian micriobialitic coral reef in Hungary. Other occurrences from Korytnica (Poland), Steinebrunn (Austria) and Estepona (Spain) are not reef-associated but represent various clayey to sandy inner to middle neritic environments.
