Discussion. A single spire fragment from the Badenian of Šmarjeta in Slovenia was identified as Turritella secans Cossmann & Peyrot, 1922 by Mikuž (1982, 2009). This species is based on specimens from the Chattian of Peyre- horade (France) and differs distinctly from the Paratethyan specimen in its strongly reduced secondary sculpture, prominent, sharp spiral keel and insignificant suture (see https://science.mnhn.fr/institution/mnhn/collection/f/item/ j05835?lang=fr_FR). The fragment from Šmarjeta is unidentifiable without additional material.
