Simulium (Simulium) taythienense Takaoka, Sofian-Azirun & Ya’cob, 2014: 353–361 (Female, male, pupa and larva).

Specimens examined. Three females, one male, 10 pupae, 15 mature larvae collected from a stream (width 1–2 m, depth 7–10 cm, water temperature 26˚C, exposed to the sun, altitude 560 m, 16˚16’36.371” N/107˚13’46.749” E), slowly to moderately flowing in a grass field, Thua Thien Hue Province, central Vietnam, 24-II-2014, by H. Takaoka, M. Sofian-Azirun, Z. Ya’cob, C.D. Chen & K.W. Lau.

Distribution. Vietnam.

Remarks. This species was described from Vietnam and assigned to the S. striatum species-group by Takaoka et al. (2014c). It is characterized by the female haired basal portion of the radial vein, dark short hairs on the male scutum, and pupal gill with 10 slender filaments of subequal thickness, arranged as 2+3+3+2 filaments from dorsal to ventral.
