Material examined. Syntypes (2 females in alcohol): Papua New Guinea: Bismarck Archipelago, 1.i.– 31.xii.1905 — 1 female (Berlin ZMB); Bismarck Archipelago, Herbertshöhe?, 1.i.–31.xii.1903, coll. Dr. Dempwolff— 1 female (Berlin ZMB) .
Other specimens: Bismarck Archipelago, New Britain, leg. Dr. O. Finsch— 2 females (Berlin ZMB).
Diagnosis. This taxon is characterized by the large process from nearly base of the seventh female abdominal sternite. The process is bulging at base, afterwards long tongue-shaped, stout and surpasses the base of the subgenital plate (Figs. 31 D–E). The ovipositor is distinctly curved, with lateral furrow and slightly widened before tip (Fig. 31F). Males are unknown. The female seventh sternite and subgenital plate of X. p. dempwolfi are similar to those of X. p. confluens (Griffini, 1909b). The narrow apical area of the subgenital plate and the projection of the seventh sternite are longer in X. p. dempwolfi.
