Plekocheilus (Eurytus) taylorianus (Reeve, 1848)

Bulimus taylorianus Reeve 1849: pl. 81 fig. 602. Type locality: Ecuador, near Quito, Chimborazo. Lectotype BMNH 1874.12.11.271 (Breure 1978). Plekocheilus taylorianus (Reeve); Richardson 1995: (references, synonymy; see remarks).

Remarks. The records available suggest that P. taylorianus is confined to Ecuador, but it may extend into northernmost Peru. Köhler (2007): 127, fig. 5 mentioned a paralectotype in Berlin (ZMB 112.722). However, the picture shown is a different species of Plekocheilus . The lots available do not have actual records of altitude, but several of the localities listed are in the ~ 2200–2890 m range. However, Archidona and Puyo are lower (605 and 950 m), and a wide range of altitudes exists around Mindo (1400–4780 m). The label of lot USNM 316070 is clearly in error as the maximum elevation of Mt. Chimborazo is 6310 m; it is likely that those specimens were collected at a much lower elevation in the foothills of Chimborazo.
