TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Jalisco, Sierra Madre, near Bolanos, 7,600 ft. (2316 m) .
DISTRIBUTION: Durango, Zacatecas, and Jalisco (Mexico).
COMMENT: Findley, 1955, Univ. Kans. Publ. Mus. Nat. Hist., 9: 1 -68 considered this a subspecies of oreopolus . However, it is assignable to the subgenus Sorex whereas oreopolus belongs to the subgenus Otisorex; see Diersing and Hoffmeister, 1977, J. Mammal., 58:313. See comments under oreopolus and ventralis .
