Sapromyza septentrionlis Loew, 1847: 32 . Type locality: Russia (“Das nordliche Russland ”). Homoneura mellina Czerny, 1932: 50 [as syn.].

Diagnosis. Wing with basal tips of R4+5 and CuA1 slightly brown; brown spots on r-m and dm-cu. Abdomen pale yellow.

Redescription. MALE. Body length 3.9 mm, wing length 4.5 mm. FEMALE. Body length 3.0– 3.2 mm, wing length 4.0 mm.

Head (Fig. 236) yellow. Frons as long as wide and parallel-sided; ocellar triangle yellow, oc long, extending to anterior margin of frons, longer than posterior or; anterior or as long as posterior or. Gena about 1/4 height of eye. Antenna yellow, 1st flagellomere about 1.4 times as long as high; arista black except for brownish base, with ray pubescent, shorter than 1/3 height of 1st flagellomere. Proboscis and palpus yellow.

Thorax (Figs 237, 238) yellow. Mesonotum with 0+3 dc (1st post-sutural dc clearly behind transverse suture), acr in 2 rows and prsc as long as or shorter than 1st post-sutural dc. Scutellum yellow, apical scutellar setae crossed. Legs pale yellow except for apical tarsomere pale brown. Fore femur with 3 pv, 6 pd, and ctenidium with 13–15 short setae; fore tibia with 1 long preapical ad and 1 short apv. Mid femur with 4 a and 1 app; mid tibia with 1 strong preapical ad and 2 strong apv. Hind femur with 1 weak preapical ad; hind tibia with 1 preapical ad and 1 apv. Wing (Fig. 235) basal tips of R4+5 and CuA1 slightly brown; brown spots on r-m and dm-cu; subcostal cell hyaline; costa with 2nd (between R1 and R2+3), 3rd (between R2+3 and R4+5) and 4th (between R4+5 and M1) sections in proportion of 4.9:1.4:1; r-m slightly behind middle of discal cell; ultimate and penultimate sections of M 1 in proportion of 1:1.2; ultimate section of CuA1 about 1/6 of penultimate. Halter pale yellow.

Abdomen (Fig. 235) pale yellow. Male genitalia (Figs 239–243): syntergosternite semicircular, with short dorsal setulae; epandrium with four pairs of long dorsal setae and a row of setulae along anterior ventral corner; surstylus narrow, curved and acute apically with short setulae in lateral view; hypandrium wide U-shaped in ventral view; postgonite broad with a slender subuliform process in ventral view and rounded apically in lateral view; aedeagus broaden at middle and narrow apically with a small concavity in ventral view; aedeagal apodeme very short, about 1/3 length of aedeagus.
